Giraffe pllow

The Giraffe block I made a while ago has been turned into a cushion.
This block was part of the zoo animals series of paper pieced patterns by Kristy @ Quiet Play,
I used a cute giraffe print fabric to make the main part of this block as the colour was just right:)
For the border, I used an aqua zebra print along with my favourite B&W stripey fabric for the binding.
And it is backed in a elephant and grey print with a covered zipper using the great tutorial by Adrianne here.
This was on my FAL Q3 list for this year so linking up with Adrianne @ On The Windy Side.

Geometric Sewing Machine

When I saw a photo of Kristy's amazing Geometric Sewing Machine a few months ago I immediately wanted to make one of my own!
I have sewn a few of Kristy's patterns before  (Zoo BOM giraffe and Hexalicious pillow) and I really like all of her Geometric designs - the cat is also on my "to do " list!
Paper piecing is a great way to use up scrappy pieces of fabric - I try to do the larger sections first then am able to use some of those off cuts up in other areas.
I just did simple straight line quilting for this mini quilt and bound it in the vibrant Eggplant Dashes print from AMH Dowry.
And it is backed in Eucalyptus which is one of my favourite AMH Pretty Potent prints.

Mustang Trail Tote

This "Mustang" Trail Tote is my entry for the "Wilderness" challenge at Le Challenge - you can't get more wild than mustangs, arrows and foxes:)
The Trail Tote pattern by Anna @ Noodlehead comes in two sizes - last year, I made the larger size of the Trail tote and I have wanted to make the smaller size since then.
I love all of the Cotton and Steel ranges, but the Mustang fabrics by Melody Miller from the original Cotton & Steel release are my favourites.
I used a downsized Fancy Fox block along with some other C&S fabrics to make up the patchwork, then quilted the front panel in straight lines.
For the other side of the tote, I used the Mustang arrows canvas in mint metallic.

And I had some lovely green denim here which I have used for the adjustable strap.
There is a welt pocket on the back along with a slip pocket on the interior of the bag.
Metal zips are quite hard to come by but I have found that jeans/trouser zippers are perfect!

WIP - Skipping Stones

A few weeks ago, I drove up to Fifis Fabricology on the Gold Coast to do a "Skipping Stones" quilt workshop with Kelley.
The pattern requires a jelly roll but as I have quite a bit of a stash of Parson Gray "Curious Nature" fabrics, I easily cut enough WOF strips prior to the class.
And these are the 2 blocks that I made whilst were there - I am probably going to make 12 blocks for each quilt to make it larger as I think this would be a perfect quilt to make for my twin boys who turn 18 next year.
This is the wonderful class sample that Kelley made which I had seen at the Quilt show last year. She has also used Parson Grey fabrics - a mix of Curious Nature and Empire I think...
Anyway, it is good to have made a start on the first of these two quilts - I have a year to work on them as the boys only turned 17 last week:) I am trying to keep the quilts a surprise though so hoping to work on them further when the boys go away to Cambodia for a school Immersion in October.

"In Flight" pillow

Juliet @ Tartan Kiwi designs the most amazing paper piecing patterns - I made the elephant last year and the Zebra she has just done is just stunning!
Juliet is also hosting an "In Flight' QAL where she has patterns of numerous birds and this was one of the extra birds she designed for the quilt.
I tested this bird block for Juliet back in June and I used some "Old lace in Cerulean" Cloud 9 fabric from the "Tsuru" range for the background and a tone-on-tone feather fabric for the bird.
To make this 12" block into a pillow, I added another Cloud 9 print "Clearing" from the '"Nature Walk" collection for the borders.
I then quilted the pillow front in straight lines and it has finished at 18".

#Terra Australis Quilt

This week I managed to finish off my Hashtag quilt which I made using the beautiful Terra Australis fabrics by Emma Jean Jansen.
The Hashtag quilt is one of the projects from Camille Roskelleys fabulous "Pre-Cut Piecing Made Simple" class on Craftsy.
For the quilting, I used the serpentine stitch on my machine which was really quick and easy to do and I love how it has turned out!
I used a bamboo wadding for this quilt and it is so incredibly soft.
The backing is one of the TA1 prints - Spots In Ocean Blue which I was also going to use for the border but decided not to add it to the front as it is quite "busy".
And there are Kangaroos hopping around the edge of the quilt - I think they are my favourite print from the Terra Australis range :)
Whilst out for a late afternoon drive, one of my sons was kind enough to help out with some photos at a rainforest mural down by the river which was the perfect backdrop for this quilt.
