Water Colour Seahorse quilt

When I saw the Watercolor Seahorse quilt pattern by Elaine @ Summercrafter designs, I thought that it was such a clever design and have wanted to make it ever since then.
It was also perfect to use up the leftover strips from the Canyon Patchwork Swoon quilt.
The seahorses were fairly straightforward to piece - mainly squares and a few HST.
And I loved how the fabrics looked with the pretty aqua background.
I decided to use the serpentine stitch to do some wavy quilting across the quilt.
We went to the wharf down by the river in Ballina for some photos.
And then stopped off at The Big Prawn on the way home for another photo!

Baby Shower Gift basket

The daughter of a friend of mine is expecting her first child (a girl) and she held her baby shower over the weekend.
I wanted to make her a few items for the nursery and chose some duck fabric along with a coordinating print for the basket, and a cute flamingo muslin to make a baby wrap.
Firstly, I made the basket using the "One Hour Basket" tutorial by Kelly @ Kelbysews.
I had enough of the duck print to make a matching Open Wide Zippered pouch using the tutorial by Anna @ Noodlehead designs.
Then I sewed the muslin wrap and a couple of burp cloths, and I even made a little baby card to go along with the gift.
This was the delicious Baby shower cake made by #honeybirdcakes which was a chocolate cake with choc peppermint ganache filling and Swiss meringue buttercream.
And some cute peppermint choc cheesecake "shots" which were so nice and refreshing on such a hot day that I may have had more than one!

Colorway quilt along

Although I have quite a few projects on the go, I joined in another Quilt-along running during November...
I already had a F8 bundle of the Handmade fabric that I have been keen to use with a cute B&W dot fabric, and this seemed the perfect opportunity!
Then I happened upon a destash of a Handmade JR which suited the cutting of this particular quilt better.
The rest of the quilt is cut from my B&C stash and coordinating solids so I still have about half of the JR strips remaining to use for another project.
The print fabrics were matched with a coordinating solid

This is the test block I made which although it isn't perfect was a lot easier to sew than what I thought it would be.
And the next one, using a scant 1/4" seam which may have helped get those pesky points lined up!

Scrappy Seahorses!

After making the Canyon Patchwork Swoon quilt for my daughter, I was left with some short pieces of the jelly roll strips.
I went looking for a way to use up these scraps and came across the Watercolor Seahorse quilt by Elaine Summercrafter which used lots of little 2.5" squares so I got out my seam ripper and pulled some of the strip sets apart.
As I was using colourful squares, I also decided to go with an aqua background appropriately named "Sea".
Lots of little HST's were sewn and trimmed before piecing the quilt!
This is the first of the three seahorses.

Sunday Stash - Slow and Steady

I made a trip to my LQS store recently and added some "Slow and Steady" Tortoise and Hare prints to my Tula stash.
Many of the other Slow and Steady prints have already been used in my 100 Blocks City Sampler quilt (#kirstenscitysampler on IG)  but I needed few more which I can also use in the Hexagon quilt which I am planning to do soon.
Now, I am just waiting on an acrylic template to make the cutting of the extra hexagons easier...

Fancy Forest Bunny pillow

When I made the Fancy Forest baby quilt earlier this year, I made a test block for the bunny first to make sure I had all of those little pieces worked out...
So at the end I had an extra block ready to make into a coordinating pillow.
I added some borders to make the pillow cover up to 16" square.
Then did some cross hatch quilting after marking lines 1" apart with my hera marker.
For the back, I just made a simple envelope closure and then bound it in a cute dotty print.

My Goals for Q4 of the FAL...

This is the last quarter of the 2016 FAL and I have a mix of projects that I am hoping to get done including a few Christmas gifts...
1. Christmas gift bags: these bags are a great idea for gift giving as they can be reused - I have a few different sized ones cut out ready to sew up in time for gifting.
2. Scrappy Swoon leftovers quilt: the quilt top is put together so now need to baste and quilt...
3. Christmas star pillow: this Scrap Jar block  is going to be made into a pillow.
4. An epic Elephant Abstractions quilt using the amazing pattern by Violet Craft: I have only done 3 of the 97 paper pieces so far so still have a long way to go...
5. Tula Pink 100 blocks sampler: we are over halfway there now and these are the first 36 blocks.
6. Ruby Tuesday quilt: made using the "Room and Board" pattern by Camille @ Thimbleblossoms, the quilt top is sewn and ready for basting then quilting.
7. Watercolour Seahorse quilt: I have just enough Canyon scraps left over from the Canyon Patchwork Swoon quilt to make these cute seahorses.
8. Caravan tote: making another of these lovely bags, this time using some aqua denim with the feathers print.
9.  This cute bunny was an "extra" block I made when sewing the Fancy Forest baby quilt and I am going to make it onto a matching pillow.
10.Necessary wallet: I have wanted to make the NCW for a while now and am finally giving it a go!
11. Tencel AMH dress: after successfully sewing this pattern earlier this year, I am using it again with some lovely Tencel for another dress with some pretty trim for the pockets.
12. Baby shower gift: I am planning on making a "One Hour Basket" to fill with goodies as a gift for a friends daughter who is expecting her first baby soon.
13.Coastal Ripples: this is a project carried over from the last quarter using up some leftover yarn from other blankets.
14. Tula Hexie quilt: I was lucky to win a set of these hexies recently and just need to cut some more hexagons from the solids and the Slow and Steady prints I have used in my 100 blocks quilt to make this lovely quilt.
15. Hoop wall art: this was a recent sew along hosted by Kylie from Willow and Trout and although I didn't have a chance to do it at the time, this will be another fun project to do over the holidays.
